If you’re in your 20s or even 30s, you might feel a lot of uncertainty all the time — you aren’t sure what your life purpose is, or your uncertain about what path you should take in life.

This is normal.

“We all want to know what our driving ambitions should be in life.

We all want to have a certain life purpose.

We all want to feel we’re on the right path.

We all want to perform well at our habits, our routines, our productivity.

We all want to feel more confident, and perfect what we are doing.”

Striving all the time towards confidence and certainty – This is the struggle.

Do you know what?! No one is free from struggling. You can even look up to the most successful people, for example Obama, Merkel or Adele. Do you think they have figured out their lives? Do you believe they are certain and perfect? Oh no, far from that. I think there is no one (at least if you are not enlightened?) who feels certainty about his or her path or purpose of life.

“Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart.
…live in the question.”

But how could we better face the struggles and move along they way of our life path? Here are some ideas:

Realize that it’s all uncertainty

Are you getting the most of life or are you all the time looking jealously at other people’s life on Social Media? Are you uncertain about your future and feeling anxiety? When you’re feeling bad about yourself, it’s because of uncertainty or whether you’re a good and disciplined person. To sum up: It’s all uncertainty.

Realize that none of us likes uncertainty

We all feel uncertain, everyday day, and we all struggle with it. Some were lucky growing up more comfortably but in the end we try to find certainty in some way – with distraction, food, shopping etc.

Notice when you’re feeling it

Being aware of this feeling of uncertainty is actually an important skill to develop. You start feeling awareness when uncertainty arises, so you can ask yourself why? See if you can tell what you’re being uncertain about (is it anxiety, fear, self-doubt, anger…?)

Stay with it

This uncertainty you’re feeling is unpleasant. That’s perfectly OK, perfectly normal. Don’t run from it. Instead, stay with this uncomfortable, unappealing uncertainty. It’s here in you, a part of this moment, a part of you but not the whole of you. Just stay, stay.

Turn to the moment and find the beauty

After staying with the uncertainty for a while, realize that you’re trying to know the unknowable. You can’t know what the perfect path will be, you can’t know what the perfect you should be, you can’t know what your purpose in life is until it starts to uncover itself. Focus on the present moment and try to make the most of it. Feel the energy and find the beauty in the space around you. Pay attention to the objects, nature, light, people, sounds and movement around you. This is the practice. It isn’t easy. It isn’t certain. But it is beautiful.

Our life is a sacred journey and everyday brings a new teaching with it. Possibly, I am growing up more or I am truly starting to glimpse the beauty around me I enjoy spending time outside. Preferably in good company or alone and to explore natural places. There is nothing more energizing than spending the weekends hiking – and to be honest Switzerland is the most beautiful country for it. You might have seen the previous post about hiking or how you can distress by spending time in nature. And so is this post hopefully inspiring you too. And what is needed more than a wonderful pair of walking shoes – like even that stylish and comfortable as my CAT boots, a backpack and some basics? Good weather, good vibes and flowers 😀

“I wanted a perfect ending. Now I’ve learned, the hard way, that some poems don’t rhyme, and some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.
Delicious Ambiguity.”
