Canggu Travel Guide

“Canggu – “The Ubud by the Sea”

If you have decided to visit Bali and are looking for an alternative place to stay, you should definitely consider Canggu. The village is just a short drive away from the hustle and bustle of Seminyak but feels like a totally different world.

The Bohemian vibe, surf beaches and Café culture attract travellers and expats who want something a bit different. In fact – Canggu is also known as the ‘Ubud by the Sea’. And to be honest, Canggu is literally THE perfect place to live the Bali life – Sunrise Yoga, super healthy and delicious (vegetarian/ vegan) food, amazing places to stay and of course the beach!

Place to Stay

There are plenty of options and for every budget the suitable place. If you are enough people you could hire a private villa at The Chillhouse. But also more affordable options mostly will offer you an amazing experience (For example the Vikko Dera Retreat).

I stayed at the newly opened The Haven Suites which have direct access to the beach and I was literally blown away by the beautiful room with direct access to the pool. And of course with an amazing breakfast buffet included 🙂 Airbnb has always amazing jewels and I was extremely lucky to stay at the amazing Ethnic House in Jungleroom (more coming soon)

Eat & Drink

You will realize as most of the people are surfers or yogis, they will be up in the early morning hours to catch the best waves or enjoy sun salutations… Therefore, the best spots are open early but also close early!

    • What is a surfer’s place without Nalu Bowls?! The cutest smoothie bowls J
    • Have the most delicious meal of your life upstairs at the Betelnut Cafe – I came twice for the veggie curry because I couldn’t stop dreaming of them…
    • The Peloton Supershop… After I’ve been following Elsa on Instagram for some time I just had to check out this spot. And I think I could live of all these goodies…
    • Avocado with every dish – Avocado lovers please follow me straight to Avocado Café
    • The Shady Shack is also pretty Instagramable 😛
    • Have a delicious coffee and breakfast (great Vegan choice) at Café Vida

Do and See

Relax on the Echo beach and watch the surfers or try your own surfing lesson. Stay until sunset and end the day in a with a walk on the beach. You can do it as many of the local (expats) and just indulge the pool and have a chill time at your villa. If you’re staying longer, the Sunday markets are amazing for fresh food and handicraft.

Definitely, if you’re into Yoga have a lesson at one of the various studios. Me, as Ashtangi can only recommend Samadi Bali. Damien is an amazing teacher and nothing is better than starting the day with a Mysore practice in the Shala! Desa Seni is great for other Yoga styles.

If you have the courage try a surfing lesson at the beach! Fun, but really hard for beginners 😉

This is the Canggu Edition and as I already travelled now up North to Ubud you can follow me on Instagram for many more pictures and adventures or then patiently waiting for the Ubud Edition (last year’s post here)
