Starting the new year with a fresh breeze and new motivation to create and share again. Have you ever had a hard day, or came home after a fight with a colleague at work and turned on music do calm down?

Do you associate songs or music with different types of emotions or experiences? (For example I listen Bon Iver – Holocene when I feel sad. Or I have a special London playlist). Do you find it difficult to sit still while listening to a fast tempo song? Have you ever wondered why?

Many people say that fast music makes them feel happier and recalls happy memories. If they listen to slow music in a major key, they will feel more relaxed and even say such kind of music is good for meditation. If most people are asked to listen to dissonant music in a fast tempo, they will response with fear. It is scientifically proven that dissonance causes a feeling of discomfort (already babies start to cry).

In fact, for any piece of music, the way it is experienced by the listener is often totally different. I love to listen to Foy Vance or Old Sea Brigade when I’m in nature. Songs that trigger a feeling of freedom and relaxation as this is what I feel when I am outside.

It’s interesting that scientists found that the right kind of music can release endorphins. This causes relief of pain and can even enhance happiness and pleasure. Music can also induce sleep (proven by many babies ;)).

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
― Bob Marley

I love to listen to music whenever I am working at my computer or when travelling. Depending in what mood I am or in what place I am, the music I choose is often suiting the situation and enhancing my state of mind. I am usually the earplugs kinda person, but I am also a master at loosing and breaking them (I consumed more than 10 earplugs last year…). And so I am incredibly pleased and happy with the new headphones by Panasonic. They are amazingly sound-absorbing and make any noise train travel more pleasant 😀 (And hopefully, I won’t loose them so easily

In fact, I noticed the power of music. When I feel down or my brain is constantly telling me stories and lowering my vibration, I know that uplifting music brings peace. Music is so freeing and I feel the negativity disappearing and being replaced by positive and uplifting thoughts.

What is it that makes music so intensely powerful? We may never really know. As much as we can quantify the responses the brain produces when we listen to music, we cannot yet explain why they happen.

Music is powerful – use it in your favour!
