“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”
― John Steinbeck
Other people go on winter holidays far abroad and escape the cold. Others book skiing holidays in the mountains. I am lucky enough to live at a place surrounded by a variety of winter sport destinations (Davos, Flims Laax, Arosa, Lenzerheide just to name my favorites). And let me tell you, this winter we do have plenty of snow and the lopes are amazing. You definitely won’t regret choosing the Swiss Alps before a tropical place 🙂
Definitely the classic activities such as skiing, snowshoeing, sledding will keep you happy and busy all day in nature. And while you will feel like a child wildly awake and content. Let me show you 5 traditional activities the unusual way. In Graubünden you can lift these activities to the next level and experience an exciting adventure!
Moonlight snowshoeing with fondue
In St.Antönien you can visit the Partnun Lake in summer and go hiking or swimming (Remember here). But also in Winter they have a panorama chalet experience to offer. First you enjoy a warming fondue dinner and then you leave into the nightly silence and for a snowshoeing walk. (Find out more)
Night skiing or sledding
Why just go skiing when or sledding when everyone else is? Have you ever tried doing these winter sports at night? Various places offer the fun also at night. For example, in Lenzerheide every Friday there is the possibility to hit the lopes at night and on Wednesdays evening you can go sledding the 3.8 km illuminated trail.
Winter walk with a immune system boost
You don’t like skiing nor sledding. No worries, there are wintery and magical trails in the woods. You can stop at frozen and snow covered lakes along the way. Probably enjoy a warming cup of tea to enjoy the view. You can either pack a lovely lunch take all you need in your handbag and sit in a Café.
If this sounds to boring for you, here is how to take the walk to the next level: Break the ice with an ax and dip into the ice-ice cold lake in you bathing suit. 😛 Nothing for wimps and people sensitive to cold. Perfect routes for those kind of walks offer the Crestasee or the Caumasee. You will be amazed by the breath-taking view.
The most relaxing way to indulge the beauty of the Swiss Alps is definitely by train. The Bernina Express or the Glacier Express bring you exciting parts of Graubünden. Be ready for a lot of history, interesting talks and good food along the way. (More information here)
