Namasté! I’m delighted you found your way to my website. My name is Michaela and I am a Zurich-based Ashtanga yoga practitioner, student and teacher.

I am so happy to share what I love and what is my deep passion with you!

Since a young age, I have been fascinated with the movement of the body. As a former figure skater I’ve been passionately following a regular practice. After my active career I was looking for a new inspiration and was attracted to the practice of yoga during my years of university. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon Ashtanga Yoga when I fully immersed myself into a devoted practice in 2016. Following an Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher training in Bali to educate myself and being able to professionally share my passion

Since then, I have continued to draw inspiration from my daily practice on my mat and journey of discovery of mind and body. Yoga has helped me to find inner peace and a deep feeling of love towards all living beings. I want to share this passion and inspire fellow interested humans to improve their life and be happier.

This is the reason why I’m so passionate about Yoga, my Yoga journey has “destroyed” my old life and give me a new, much better version of myself and a whole new mindset towards myself.

If I am not talking and sharing the practice of Yoga you’ll find me taking photographs or spending time with my beloved ones in nature. I am a deep lover of my home country Switzerland and everyday I wake up with a deep sense of gratitude to live in such a beautiful place. I also enjoy working as a blogger and influencer and share content on mindfulness and positivity.

I teach as an act of sharing the passion and love for what yoga develops in each individual; facilitating space to open, challenge and inspire those to step into the centre of their own being. I teach mainly Ashtanga Vinyasa but also other Yoga styles like Hatha Yoga and Power Yoga.

Currently, I am based in Zurich where I practice at Ashtanga Yoga Zurich with my teacher Nassera Guerroumi, a KPJAYI-authorized teacher. I practice under the guidance of Nassera at home and love to get new inspiration at workshops and retreats worldwide under the guidance of the certified teacher Laruga Glaser. Formerly, I’ve been studying with Hamish Hendry in London and Michael Hamilton in Zurich.


ABOUT ASHTANGA YOGA

Ashtanga yoga is a lifelong spiritual practice for those seeking clarity and self-realisation. It is a holistic practice that purifies the body, breath and mind, leading you to the knowledge of your innermost nature.

It was first described by an ancient sage called Patanjali in his infamous text, the Yoga Sutras. He defined yoga as “the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind”, and Ashtanga means “eight limbs”. So Ashtanga yoga is the practice of these eight limbs in order to experience the calm and peaceful state of yoga

The eight limbs include: the yamas and niyamas (observances and restraints), asana (postures), pranayama (breath control), pratyahara (sense control), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (absorption).

It is my goal to always stay true to this original definition of Ashtanga yoga and share my knowledge of all aspects of yoga, not just the physical practice.
